There is approximately 1,500 Irish patients who have been implanted with faulty PIP implants. French Health Products Safety Agency (AFSSAPS ) recalled the product from the market because of the increase in reports of ruptures with the product because the silicone gel used in the PIP implants was not of a medical grade increasing the chance of the implant tearing .
