March 15th was International Consumer Day and it has been a good month for consumers with key initiatives announced in the areas of air passenger rights and consumer redress. We will look at these in this month’s bulletin and bring you details from the Consumer Summit which was held last week in Brussels and focused on the enforcement of consumer rights. Our consumer query of the month relates to a faulty tablet computer while our success story deals with a problematic holiday booking.

Scams are big business. An estimated £6 billion is lost every year in the UK to scam activity. With scammers becoming ever-more inventive and their approaches more sophisticated, it is important that consumers are vigilant and are aware of the latest threats. This month we are looking at scams carried out by phone following the news that 80% of the scams reported to the National Consumer Agency in 2012 were carried out by this means.
