ECC Ireland welcomes the awareness created by the findings of an EU study, released today, on the safety of children’s clothing. The study, which was carried out by 11 European countries, including Ireland, focused on children’s clothes with cords and drawstrings and found that over one in ten items tested were in breach of EU safety standards and represented a serious risk to the children who wear them, sometimes with fatal results. Clothing with cords or drawstrings can become entangled in bicycles, doors, car doors or playground equipment leading to severe injury or death.
