European Consumer Centre Ireland – Annual Report 2019

The European Consumer Centre Ireland provides information, advice, education and outreach programmes on consumer rights and entitlements stemming from the European Union consumer protection legislation. We assist consumers by providing free-of-charge expert assistance with resolving cross-border consumer complaints within the EU and the European Economic Area.

ECC Ireland provides Irish consumers with detailed information on in- and out-of-court procedures available for their cross-border complaints; refers consumers to the appropriate out-of-court entity for services such as mediation, arbitration and conciliation aimed at resolving consumer-trader disputes; advises consumers on the appropriate national or European court for consumer claims. 

 

On 23 October 2020, the European Consumer Centre Ireland published its 2019 Annual Report detailing its activities and consumer complaints received from Irish consumer in relation to their EU consumer rights over the course of the year. These five areas accounted for 83% of all cases handled by ECC Ireland in 2019:
