Unwanted subscriptions

Young woman with long dark wavy hair wearing a pink T-shirt and blue over-shirt with her hands lifted and spread with a puzzled expression.

Caught in a subscription trap?

Did you sign up online or on the phone for a free or low-cost trial and now find yourself unwittingly locked into costly repeat payments? The first and most important step is to contact the business and immediately cancel the subscription.  You can use our Ending a Subscription letter template to help you.

Good to know

Businesses should be upfront about how a subscription service works. In most instances, if you sign up online or over the phone, you should be given 14 days to cancel the subscription. Check any documentation that you received when you signed up. If you feel that you should not have paid the charges, make a complaint to the business. If you are not satisfied with the response, contact your bank and enquire if a chargeback can be done to your card. Read more about Chargebacks.
